The town of Tlaltizapan in the State of Morelos, Mexico, located 940 Mts (3000 ft) above sea level, was tributary to the Valley of Mexico during
the pre-Hispanic era. In the colonial period, it belonged to the Marquisate of the Valley of Oaxaca.
In 1914, during his revolutionary campaign, Zapata, chose Tlaltizapan as the place to establish the headquarters of the Liberating Army of the
South. During his stay, he built the atrium of the mid XVI century Dominican church; a great mausoleum with several crypts to bury Zapatista leaders, but by chance, these were occupied by Generals Octaviano Muñoz,
Adrián Huicochea, Ignacio and Alberto Maya, Bonifacio GarcÃa, Amador Salazar, Emigdio Marmolejo and Pioquinto Galis.
The weather in Tlaltizapan, is favorable for growing sugar cane, papaya, melon, tomatoes and rice as well as for the cultivation of exotic fruit
like Chicozapotes, dates and coconut.
Tlaltizapan, is the only town in the State of Morelos where long narrow stoles are woven, this because some of the families from Tepancingo,
Mexico, stayed in this area during the revolution and established their looms.
Because of its excellence weather, the district of Tlaltizapan, is one for bathing resorts: Las Estacas, El Rollo, Los Cocos, Tequesquitengo,
Tehuixtla, and others like the one of Tecolapan, less visited.
