Located 52 km. from Taxco, Gro. on Highway 166, the Grutas de Cacahuamilpa, or Cacahuamilpa Grottos were discovered in 1834 by Manuel Saenz de
la Peña and were decreed a National Park in 1937. Only 10 of the estimated 70 kilometers of passages and chambers have been explored to date.
These caves still cause admiration from people here and abroad
since they are know as one of the largest in the world. Cacahuamilpa, landscape or a geological era since millions of years ago now is an outrageous testimony of an underground river with stalactites and stalagmites
figures. This is a safe adventure for speleology and tourism.
Be sure to wear sturdy, slip-proof shoes for the tour. Some parts of the path are quite slick with moisture and deposits.
Guided tours
are conducted on the hour as of 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. every day, taking you through approximately 2 km. of the underground labyrinth. Each tour lasts about 2 hours.
